Repairing wood rot

Repairing wood rot

Wood rot can rapidly compromise the structural strength of a construction. Sometimes it isn´t possible or desirable to replace a beam, and a repair has to be done. For this we use Fixprimer as impregnating agent for the substrate reinforcement. This can be done even on slightly damp wood. Then we repair the beam with Wall Fix. The final result is stronger than the original.

Step 1: Preparation

  • Remove as much rotting wood as possible.

  • Remove dust and loose particles with the vacuum cleaner.

Step 2: Reinforcing

  • Prepare Fixprimer. Add the entire content of Fixprimer component B to component A. Screw the cover on and shake vigorously.

  • Apply the Fixprimer generously to the affected surface. Do so using the brush that comes with it. The liquid is absorbed by the wood. The deeper the liquid can penetrate, the better.

Step 3: Repair

  • Prepare Wall Fix. Pour the entire content of hardener B into the total quantity of mortar in the pail.

  • Mix the two components very thoroughly for around 2 minutes. NEVER add water, cement or other substances!

  • Apply the mortar in a first, thin layer with a trowel. Press on well.

  • Restore the original form of the beam with Wall Fix.

  • Possibly create a small formwork using form board.

Step 4: Finishing

  • Remove excess Wall Fix immediately with Powerwipes tissues.

  • Clean tools with acetone.
